Welcome to the first edition of Matty Amsterdam’s Essential Fantasy Insights! Each week, we’ll try to hit you with the quick-and-dirty of who to look for, and who to stay away from. To start, if either Sterling Shepard or Victor Cruz are available in your league, grab them now. Nobody plays more three-wide sets than the New York Giants, and this week, Big Blue is up against a New Orleans team with a porous defense. Last year, the Giants put 49 points up on the Saints, and this year’s offense is even better, with both Shepard and Cruz scoring touchdowns last week. If you need help at receiver, look for Eli Manning‘s targets.

As for who to stay away from, it’s tempting to see Alex Smith putting up 363 years and 2 TDs, plus another rushing TD, and think he’s a nice play going forward. Smith will put up consistent, if unsexy, numbers this season, but this week against the Texans stout defense is not the place to bank on him. If you need a QB fill-in, consider Ryan Fitzpatrick (going Thursday night against the Bills), or Jimmy Garoppolo instead. Good luck!
