In Season 3 of Love & Hip Hop Hollywood, Ray J says he’s ready to settle down with his fiancée Princess. But his mother, Sonja Norwood, doesn’t think it’s a smart move. When Princess asks Sonja if she feels like Ray J is making a mistake getting married, Sonja says: “I feel like I need to protect him from the world.” Princess asks, “And I’m a part of the world?” Ray J’s mother says without blinking, “Well, yeah.” The confirmation makes Princess break down in tears. Later, Sonja tells Ray J, “I love you but you know I’m also that business side.” She hands her son a folder and declares: “There will be a pre-nup.”
With her husband Willie Norwood, the 65-year-old momanger launched the careers of Ray J and his sister Brandy. After the success of the TV sitcom Moesha (starring Brandy), Willie and Sonja Norwood went on to produce two reality TV shows: For the Love of Ray J in 2010 and Brandy & Ray J: A Family Business in 2011. Love & Hip Hop Hollywood airs Mondays at 8pm on VH1.
