Digicel, a telecommunications provider in the Caribbean, Central America, and Asia Pacific, wants to be known for speed. Cue the fastest man in the world. Usain Bolt, fresh off his dominant performance for the third straight summer Olympics, has signed a deal with Digicel that makes him a lifetime employee of the company. His title? CSO — Chief Speed Officer. Bolt, it’s safe to say, is by far the best athlete to occupy a corporate C-Suite anywhere in the world. Not since Google’s famously minimalistic home page design has there been a such a perfect match between the need for speed and a symbol of it.
Digicel has supported Bolt’s career since he was 17 years old, and the latest move only cements the relationship between the global track icon from Jamaica and the company. Bolt says: “As Digicel CSO, I am opening a new chapter and will be making it my mission to ensure that speed stays at the top of the agenda.” Customers like the sound of that.
