As the world’s best athletes compete at the Olympic Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, the world’s best street dancers will compete at the 15th World Hip Hop Dance Championship in Las Vegas. 4000 dancers from 50 countries will compete at the week-long competition (beginning August 6) organized by Hip Hop International and held at the Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort. The World Finals will take place on August 13 at Thomas & Mack Arena.
The World Hip Hop Dance Championship has launched a number of professional careers including:
- Parris Goebel, 22, who won the first of her seven World Championship gold medals at age 17, has choreographed tours and videos for Janet Jackson, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, and most recently Justin Bieber — his “Sorry” video featuring Parris and her dancers has been seen more than 1 billion times!
- Chaz Walter will compete for the 5th straight year with Las Vegas based Prodigy Dance Crew. He recently joined the cast of Cirque Du Soleil’s “Michael Jackson ONE” after signing a contract on his 18th birthday. (Cirque Du Soleil holds casting sessions during the Championship each year and hires dancers to appear in its shows worldwide.)
- Mukhtar was hired immediately after winning the World Championship a decade ago to join the cast and creative team of Beatles LOVE and was an integral part of revamping the show to mark its 10-year anniversary.
