The Hitchhiker’s Guide author Douglas Adams also wrote the Dirk Gently series of books. Now BBC America is producing a TV series based on the holistic detective Dirk Gently. Gently investigates cases (missing cats, messy divorces) involving the supernatural. As Dirk Gently director Max Landis (Victor Frankenstein) said recently at the San Diego Comic-Con: “You can’t really hire him unless you were meant to.” He added, “And if you were meant to, that means something really weird is going to happen.”
In the TV series, Gently is portrayed by Samuel Barnett. Barnett is known for his roles on Showtime’s Penny Dreadful (Renfield), Not Safe for Work (Nathanial), Twenty Twelve (Daniel Stroud), Beautiful People (Older Simon), and Desperate Romantics. Americans will recognize him from the 2015 film Jupiter Ascending with Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis (as Advocate Bob). Dirk Gently will premiere on BBC America on October 22, 2016.
