Good as he has always been at basketball, Steph Curry still makes people wonder that he’s found so much success in the NBA. Despite his NBA pedigree (dad Dell was an All-Star at Charlotte), Curry’s slight build put the doubt in many. But it wasn’t as if he flew totally under the radar. People like to rewrite history and overplay his underdogness. It’s true and it’s not.
At Davidson Curry set multiple records while leading its unheralded basketball program deep into the NCAA tournament. That was good enough to make him the No. 7 pick in the NBA draft. In the Warriors video below you’ll see that in the 2009 summer league Curry stepped onto the floor for the Warriors ready to go — scoring from inside and out. As the announcer says: “this kid’s gonna be around quite a while.”
