On the Return to Amish episode “Dental Dilemma,” while Abe Schmucker faces a $20,000 dentist bill, his mother Mary calls her youngest daughter Esther from New York City. Mary invites Esther to join them in the city, where they’re all crashing at Kate’s very small apartment. Esther’s arrival will cause tension with her sister-in-law Rebecca (Abe’s wife), who’s already on edge about Abe’s dental work.

It’s important to note that there are two Esther Schmuckers. Mary’s daughter on Return to Amish is not the Esther Schmucker who starred in the other “reality” TV show Amish Mafia. They are cousins. Mary is Amish Mafia Esther’s aunt by marriage. (Mary’s husband Chester is the brother of Amish Mafia Esther’s father.) Amish Mafia Esther posted a trailer for a new media project called “The Rise and Return” about organized crime in the Amish community. New episodes of Return to Amish airs Sundays at 9pm on TLC.
