In the new action/thriller TV series Queen of the South, Teresa Mendoza is the protagonist. After her drug-runner boyfriend is murdered in Mexico, she flees and moves to Spain. Her plan is to become the country’s top drug smuggler so she can ultimately avenge her boyfriend’s murder.
Teresa is portrayed by Alice Braga. Americans will recognize the 33-year-old Brazilian actress from the films Elysium with Matt Damon (as Frey), I Am Legend with Will Smith (as Anna), and in the 2004 City of God set in Rio (as Angelica). Braga will appear on the big screen again in the Western The Duel with Liam Hemsworth and Woody Harrelson, which will be released on June 24. Queen of the South airs Thursdays at 10pm on USA.
