Quick — what’s cheaper than a top line iPhone, HTC, Samsung and LG phone, but has most of the good stuff power users are looking for? By the sound of the early reviews, the answer is the new OnePlus 3. The Chinese phone maker has been building a rep for making the unlocked gem of the device world — and the OnePlus 3 only adds to its street cred. Dressed to charm in sleek aluminum casing, the OnePlus 3 has 6GB of RAM, a whopping 64 GB of storage, Qualcomm processor, fingerprint sensor and a 16 megapixel rear camera all for $399.
The OnePlus 3 launch coincides with Apple’s WWDC 2016. Apple’s ability to generate excitement around its new products and initiatives has gotten mixed reports. But in anticipation of the event, Forbes last week described an Apple where a “glut of iPhones is compounded with the perceived lack of ambition. The focus will soon turn to iOS 10 and its arrival with the iPhone 7, but the real technological leaps that are being discussed are all seemingly targeted for 2017′s iPhone 8.” That seems to leave a lot of time for inroads to be made by upstarts like OnePlus. At some point it could actually be a big deal that $399 can be half of what a comparably equipped iPhone costs. Then again, most Apple devotees don’t yet believe such a thing exists — an Android device that’s comparable to an iPhone.
