Lady Gaga has been advocating for equality since she hit the stage. Her kind of Red, White and Blue is represented by the Hillary Clinton candidacy. Gaga throws her support behind Clinton not just because of her policy positions on social justice — which do happen to align with Gaga’s worldview. Gaga is also on board the Clinton train because of history. She likes firsts.
Gaga put on her stars and stripes one-piece bathing suit to encourage people to vote for the “first female US president in history.” She follows it up with “This country could use a little rock n’ roll,” apparently equating Clinton with the world’s most popular music. (Hey, N.W.A. is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame — the genre’s inclusive.) Hillary may not seem very rock and roll at first, but Gaga would seem to be an expert, no?
