In the Season 4 finale episode of Modern Family, “Double-Click,” Phil (Ty Burrell) thinks he caught his teenage son Luke sleeping in his bed with a girl. When he wakes up his wife Claire (Julie Bowen) and brings her to Luke’s room to show her, the girl is gone. Claire blames the bottle of wine they had that night. Meanwhile, Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) disagree on how to share time with their daughter Lily now that Cam took a summer job in Kansas City. Spoiler: It involves an adult-sized Annie costume.
Mitchell buys the costume from a woman named Janet who is portrayed by guest star Illeana Douglas. She’s known for her memorable roles in the films GoodFellas (Rosie), Ghost World, Cape Fear (Lori Davis), and To Die For (Janice Maretto), among others. Douglas is also recognized for her roles on the new show The Skinny (Jacqueline), Welcome to Sweden (Nancy), Ugly Betty (Sheila), and Six Feet Under (Angela). Douglas is also a writer. Her 2015 memoir is titled, I Blame Dennis Hopper. Fun fact about Douglas: She’s the granddaughter of two-time Academy Award-winning actor Melvyn Douglas. Modern Family airs Wednesdays at 9pm on ABC.
