In The Middle episode “Not Mother’s Day,” Frankie (Patricia Heaton) finds herself at the grocery store without her wallet. A couple offers to buy her groceries at the market and just asks her to “pay it forward.” Frankie responds by telling her family that she’ll take a pass on Mother’s Day and wants everyone to pull a name out of a hat and do something nice for that person. It’s the idea that counts, right?

The “pay it forward” couple, Rodney and Gloria, are portrayed by Shaughn Buchholz and Dagney Kerr. Buchholz is known for his role as Jason “Cabbage” Cabbagio on Scrubs. Kerr is known for her role as Nurse Ruth Ann Heisel on Desperate Housewives. The Middle airs Wednesdays at 8pm on ABC.
