Tape Face is the moniker for Sam Wills, a young mime from New Zealand who performs a stand-up routine without talking (while wearing a strip of duct tape across his mouth). He will make his debut on American TV on Season 11 of America’s Got Talent. With his signature tape on his face, Tape Face will perform his crowd-pleasing puppet show using oven mitts which lip sync to popular songs.
The oven mitt puppett show is so popular, and easy to emulate, that kids everywhere are doing just that (see video below). Tape Face shared the video which had a fan ask: “Is it humbling or annoying that you are being ripped off?” Tape Face replied: “I find that when it’s just people having fun it’s fine. It’s the ones who totally rip me off and pretend that the show is their idea that I have the problem with. It is still very strange to watch someone else do it!” America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
