Derek Fisher, 5-time NBA champion, has had better years than this one. After starting the season as the New York Knicks head coach with a positive run, Fisher’s Knicks went on a terrible losing streak that cost him his job. Fisher also had to contend with his nemesis, NBA veteran Matt Barnes. Barnes is the angry ex-husband of Fisher’s girlfriend Gloria Govan. Barnes and Fisher have had altercation(s) in the past — and the allegedly cuckolded Barnes recently let it be known that he and Fisher “will cross paths again.” Barnes added: “Violence is never the answer. But sometimes it is.”
Now comes the news that Fisher will have to pay about $1.3 million in spousal and child support to his ex-wife, Candace Fisher. That sum comes with an agreement to have frozen embryos belonging to the couple destroyed, according to TMZ. (Barnes would probably do that for them for free.) Fisher is rich, of course — he played in the NBA for a long time before signing a lucrative deal as the Knicks head coach. But expect him to be seeking a spot on another NBA bench or front office somewhere soon. A paycheck, no matter your wealth, comes in handy with bills like this.
