The HBO movie Confirmation tells the complex story of Anita Hill (Kerry Washington), the University of Oklahoma law professor who claimed in 1991 that Supreme Court justice nominee Clarence Thomas (Wendell Pierce) sexually harassed her when she worked for him at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Thomas denied the allegations. Her graphic testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee lead by Joe Biden (Greg Kinnear) was televised.
One of the key players behind Hill testifying was Senator Ted Kennedy’s aide Ricki Seidman who was the chief investigator of all Supreme Court justices (George H.W. Bush was president at the time). In Confirmation, Seidman is portrayed by Grace Gummer. The actress is known for her roles on Extant (Julie), American Horror Story (Penny), The Newsroom (Hallie), and Smash (Katie), among others. Gummer is the daughter of actress Meryl Streep who was pregnant with Grace while filming the 1986 film Heartburn. Confirmation will premiere on HBO on April 16 at 8pm.
