Kevin and Melissa Kiernan of Waldwick, New Jersey got fed up with neighborhood raccoons and squirrels raiding their garbage cans at night. So they came up with a solution to keep the animals from knocking off the garbage can lids. They created The Last Lid, a washable fabric that covers most brands and shapes of garbage cans. In 2012, the Kiernans pitched their idea (they didn’t have sales yet) on Shark Tank. They eventually made a deal with Daymond John – $40k for 60 percent.
