Analyst and college basketball fans alike have voiced their displeasure with the Tulsa Golden Hurricane being in the NCAA Tournament. The Selection Committee chose Tulsa over other formidable teams in South Carolina, Valparaiso, St. Bonaventure, and most notably Monmouth – all of whom had a higher rating versus the Rating Percentage Index, which is used in college basketball to rank teams based on win-to-loss ratio against strength of schedule.
The last team selected, Tulsa comes into the tournament as a number 11 seed and will face Michigan Wednesday in a play-in game for the tournament. Michigan lost to Southern Methodist and Connecticut, who Tulsa defeated during conference play in the American Athletic Conference. With a senior-loaded team and after drawing the ire of college basketball fans by their inclusion, Tulsa is in prime position to show that they do belong among the best in college basketball.
