Despite high-scoring performances this season, dynamic Oklahoma Sooners senior shooting guard Buddy Hield (averaging 25 a game) has found himself on the losing end of the scoreboard a few unlikely times. In January Hield scored 46 points against Kansas, only for the then No. 1 ranked Sooners to fall 109-106 in triple overtime. In the Big 12 Tournament, Hield’s buzzer beater half-court shot — which would have given Oklahoma the win over West Virginia — was waved off after video review.
This year’s Sporting News and Big 12 Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, Hield has had some tough breaks this season. But with Oklahoma obtaining the No. 2 seed in the West Region of this year’s NCAA Tournament, Hield will have an opportunity for redemption and to showcase his electrifying talents en route to a Final Four appearance. That’s what Oklahoma basketball has aimed for ever since Hield announced his return to Stillwater last April, even though he would have been a top pick in the NBA draft.
