World No. 1 Novak Djokovic doesn’t lose a lot of sets, especially in the early rounds of tournaments. But an American qualifier named Bjorn Frantangelo surprised the indomitable Djokovic in the first round at Indian Wells, switching places with him during the first set which Frantangelo won 6-2. Djokovic prevailed 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. Frantangelo, 22, is ranked No. 149 in the world. Djokovic is the defending champion at Indian Wells.
No. 4 seed Rafa Nadal also hit a speed bump on his road back to Big Four status, dropping a first round set before finishing the job. Nadal beat Luxembourg’s Gilles Muller 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. The 32-year-old Muller is ranked No. 45 in the world.
