A tall, beautiful redhead named Kate Waring met Heather Kamp on a train headed to Charleston. Waring quickly befriended Kamp. When they arrived in Charleston, Waring introduced Kamp to her good friend Ethan Mack. Kamp and Mack became intimate. Soon after, Kamp tricked Mack into thinking she was pregnant and convinced him to turn on his wealthy friend Waring for financial gain. According to Kamp’s testimony: At Mack’s apartment, she and Mack dared Waring to get into a suitcase. Mack tazed Waring with a stun gun, hit her over the head with a wine bottle and then dragged Waring’s body into a bathtub full of water. They later dumped her body in the woods. Days after Kate disappeared, Mack tried to cash a forged $4,500 check from Waring’s bank account, but there wasn’t enough in the account.
Kamp pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter and claimed mental illness. She was sentenced to 45 years in jail. Mack later entered an Alford Plea to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 25 years in jail. Dateline NBC will air its investigative report on the murder of Kate Waring on March 5 at 8pm.
