The first refrain of the apocalyptic song goes: “I’m waking up to ash and dust/ I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust/ I’m breathing in the chemicals…This is it, the apocalypse.” The front man of Imagine Dragons, Dan Reynolds, said of the song: “to me, it’s very masculine, powerful-sounding song, and the lyrics behind it, there’s a lot of personal story behind it.” Reynolds says the song is about his struggle with depression and anxiety.
