The owners of the Villagio Cinemas in Tampa, Gonen Minuskin and Howard Edelman, saw a business opportunity they couldn’t pass up. When the lease was coming up on the bar located in the same shopping center of the movie theatre, they bought it and christened it Dale 1891 (after local WWI pilot hero Dale Mabry). To run day-to-day operations, Howard gave his son Scott Edelman the opportunity to invest $80,000 and take over.
The bar was a success at first but then profits started to sink – it’s losing $5000 a month. For the past year, the theater has had to pick up the rent for the bar. With both businesses on the line, the partners are asking for help and opening the books to Jon Taffer of Bar Rescue. When Taffer takes a look, he doesn’t like what he sees. Golf clubs as a business expense, really? Although Taffer throws around the words embezzlement and fraud, he gives Scott another chance. Together they transform the sports bar Dale 1891 into a tropical-themed bar and grill called Cayman Cove. Bar Rescue airs Sundays at 9pm on Spike.
