McDonald’s is again giving away books to kids in its McDonald’s Happy Meals as part of a big partnership with Reading Is Fundamental (RIF). The promotion, which runs nationally from February 2 through February 15, will replace the toys and branded tie-ins that McDonald’s Happy Meals usually deliver to kids. (RIF reminds us that 8,000 high school students drop out every day, and 65% of 4th graders read at or below the basic level.)
So the McDonald’s Mappy Meal books might be seen as a “healthy alternative”– similar to what McDonald’s is offering elsewhere on its menu. This year McDonald’s will give away four books in all. It’s a Valentine’s Day theme. Here they are:
- Clark the Shark Takes Heart by Bruce Hale
- Paddington by Michael Bond
- Happy Valentine’s Day, Mouse! by Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond
- Pete the Cat: Valentine’s Day Is Cool by Kimberly and James Dean
