Sacramento couple Ed and Grace Davies, who collected valuable coins, were shot during a robbery in their home in 1981. Ed was killed. Grace survived a gun shot in the head. The robbers took six cases of silver from the house. When one of the robbers, Gary Masse, was apprehended by police, he told them Gloria Killian (who knew Ed Davies from the coin shop where she worked) was the mastermind behind the robbery. Masse got a reduced sentence (his life sentenced was reduced to 25 years) and Killian was sentenced to 32 years to life for a murder she said she had nothing to do with.
A new investigation revealed a letter Masse sent to the District Attorney after Gloria was sentenced. “I lied my ass off on the stand for you people,” he wrote referring to his testimony in court. Killian served 17 years in prison before her conviction was overturned. 48 Hours Hard Evidence on TLC will air its report “Star Witness” on February 22 at 8pm.
