Much decorated Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski says that star scorer Grayson Allen’s defensive tactics received more attention than they should have. Why? In Coach K’s opinion it’s not because Allen blatantly tripped an opponent for the second time this season. Krzyzewski says the media are focused on Allen’s behavior because he’s at Duke, which is a magnet for attention. It’s hard to argue that athlete behavior at Duke, also a highly-ranked academic school, doesn’t get an extra degree or two of scrutiny. The athletic programs at Duke have seen great success, and brought the university renown and a loads of money — but not without controversy.

The ACC didn’t suspend Allen for either incident — and neither did Duke. The ACC looked at it and came back empty. Coach K said to the media: “You’ve got to move on. The world doesn’t move on because it’s Duke.” Allen leads the 18th-ranked Blue Devils in scoring.
