Tennis champion Billie Jean King and fellow top female athletes including Serena Williams and retired LPGA star Annika Sorenstam had breakfast with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on February 4, 2016. The week leading up to Super Bowl 50 saw these illustrious athletes gather in San Francisco for The NFL Women’s Summit: “In the Huddle to Advance Women in Sport.” According to the NFL, “the summit aims to reinforce the power of sports and to encourage broad support — from men and women alike — for girls’ athletic participation.”
When King and Sorenstam retweeted a photo they posed for with Goodell, not all their fans were pleased. As DJ Lane wrote: “You know that guy has as much cred as a tobacco exec, right?” P.S. Billie Jean King fans might prefer watching her on the Fresh off the Boat episode “Michael Change Fever” (February 23, 8pm, ABC). King’s been hired to coach Emery.
