The hilarious and talented actress and singer Anna Kendrick likes a sharp barb way more than a Barbie. And she sure is great when she puts the two together. Mattel recently launched some new looks for Barbie, the most famous doll in the world. Barbie comes with different skin tones and more realistic body types now, trying to reflect the larger world and be a hero to more young people. Cheers to that.
It’s certainly possible that the new broader range of Barbies means that “When a girl plays with Barbie she imagines everything she can become,” as one ad promises. (One great DIY Barbie couturier from Nigeria certainly had her imagination stimulated.) But Anna Kendrick’s stimulation leaned a little more toward the destructive when she was younger. Her take? “When *I* played Barbie, I stripped her naked and melted her with matches.” 170,000 people liked Kendrick’s idea, many offering their own preferred methods of doll torture in the comments.
