DNC Parks & Resorts at Yosemite, Inc. used to sell hot dogs and sodas at the Yosemite National Park. Since losing its bid to continue to run the park’s concessions, DNC has requested that the Parks Service change landmark names including Yosemite Lodge, Ahwahnee Hotel, Wawona Hotel (soon to become Big Trees Lodge), among others. DNC began trademarking the names and images of such landmarks beginning in 2002, unbeknownst to the Parks Service.
DNC Parks & Resorts at Yosemite, Inc., an arm of Delaware North, which is run by Boston Bruins’ owner Jeremy Jacobs, is offering the incoming concessionaire an opportunity to buy the trademarks for $44 million. Note: DNC also runs the concessions at hundreds of airports, the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, and Wembley Stadium.
