Even though his late father, mob boss John Gotti, wouldn’t have approved, John Gotti III (aka Junior) wrote a memoir. Shadow of My Father was published in February 2015. In the book, among other things, Junior tries to fight the rumor spread by Gambino enforcer John Alite that Junior was a rat, an informant for the FBI. Junior admits he met with the FBI in 2005, but he says he didn’t give them anything.
Stories from Junior’s book will be told in a movie starring John Travolta as Gotti Sr., aka the “Dapper Don.” Travolta visited the Gotti family house in Queens, according to Junior, to research the role. Doing his research in the master bedroom, Travolta asked which side of the bed Junior’s father had slept on. (The right.) And then Travolta asked if he could lay on the bed. Gotti’s mother Victoria said, “Well so long as he’s not in bed with me it’s fine.” Junior said Travolta closed his eyes “like he was putting himself into my father’s mind.” The family is lending Travolta some of Gotti’s real jewelry and ties to wear in the movie.
