First Lady Michele Obama may have just had a momentary pause to acknowledge grace during the family Christmas Eve celebrations. President Barack Obama might be pausing wistfully by the unnecessary fire. Nothing like “Silent Night” to turn your mood to reflective, open to miracles. We’re not privy as to what time the music starts streaming on Pennsylvania Avenue — but the President and First Lady have let us know what will be streaming. And “Silent Night,” sung by soul singer Ledisi, follows The Jackson 5, Destiny’s Child, Stevie Wonder and Nat King Cole on the White House Spotify selection “Holidays with the Obamas.”
The list is below and then a tweet from Ledisi, whose real Christmas Eve isn’t so silent. She’s delivering toys to kids in tough housing developments this December 24, exemplifying the spirit the holidays embody. A kind, generous and honorable choice by Ledisi — and a fine one by the Obamas, too.
- O Tannenbaum, Vince Guaraldi Trio (A Charlie Brown Christmas)
- Let It Snow, Boyz II Men
- All I Want for Christmas Is You, Mariah Carey
- Santa Clause Is Coming To Town, The Jackson 5
