American mobster John Gotti was the head of the Gambino crime family in New York City. He died in prison of cancer in 2002 at the age of 61. His son John Gotti III (aka “Junior”) followed in his father’s footsteps. Junior says he left “The Life” 20 years ago but since then he’s been accused by former Gambino enforcer John Alite of being a rat, an informant for the FBI. Alite’s book Gotti’s Rules was released just one month before Gotti’s book, Shadow of My Father, in February 2015. Gotti Jr. admits that he met with the FBI in 2005 but didn’t give them anything.
Gotti says his father would not have approved of him writing a book — let alone a movie — but the 51-year-old is doing it anyway. He’s working with Fiore Films to incorporate material from Shadow of My Father into the movie starring John Travolta as the Dapper Don. With the blessing of his mother, Junior is lending Travolta some of his father’s famous ties and jewelry and even his car for the film. Kevin Connolly of Entourage is directing.
