Exploding Kittens Hits #2 At Amazon, With Goats

Exploding Kittens — the card game for “people who are into kittens and explosions and laser beams and sometimes goats” — raised nearly $9 million in a Kickstarter campaign at the beginning of 2015, getting contributions from just under 220,000 backers. That’s a record number of backers on Kickstarter, and they made Exploding Kittens the #1 most-funded game in Kickstarter history. Yet the market was not saturated, not by a long shot.

With the holiday shopping season in full swing, Exploding Kittens has reached the #2 bestseller spot at Amazon in the Toys & Games category. The card game is second only to another card game, the cultural phenomenon known as Cards Against Humanity, which can raise money without even sending its customers anything. Exploding Kittens is just twenty bucks, can be played by 2-5 players age 7 and up. Invented by Elan Lee and Shane Small, with extraordinary illustrations by The Oatmeal.
