Lynsey Dyer is the most famous (in the sking world) concierge on the new reality TV show Apres Ski. Dyer is a professional extreme skier. She won the National Freeski Tour in 2005 and was voted 2011 Skier of the Year by Powder Magazine, among other accomplishments. She’s featured in the lead segment of Warren Miller’s ski movie Like There’s No Tomorrow – a first for a woman. (See trailer below). Dyer even produced her own film, Pretty Faces, which encourages more women to ski.
When the news broke of Dyer joining the cast, not everyone in the ski industry was pleased. Powder published an article titled “Lynsey Dyer, What Have You Done?!” The article belittles Dyer’s participation on the show: “This is not the badass ski chick we fell in love with in the big mountains – this is Snooki in ski boots.” Ouch. Dyer’s reason for doing the show is to continue to encourage women to ski. As she points out to Outside, “Bravo has a huge, primarily female, audience who may have never been exposed to the magic this sport has to offer,” Dyer says. “If I can infiltrate this type of media to inspire even a few more ladies away from the screens and mirrors and go outside…then I’ve done my service.” Apres Ski airs Mondays at 10pm on Bravo.
