Jamie Siminoff is the entrepreneur behind Doorbot, a doorbell that lets a homeowner see who is at the door via their smartphone. He started a crowdfunding site for his product in 2012, raised $300k in venture capital and then a year later pitched his idea on Shark Tank. Siminoff didn’t get a deal but after the show Siminoff raised an additional $700k and sold 10,000 units.

When Siminoff was interviewed by The Wall Street Journal he was asked if his failed pitch on Shark Tank deterred any venture capitalists. He said: “There was definitely a snobbery of, “Oh you were on Shark Tank, “ almost like, “That’s embarrassing.” Then I showed them the numbers and what the show has done for us in terms of awareness and everything else. If you’re a consumer brand, I don’t think there’s anything else quite like [Shark Tank] that can do that for you.” The Doorbot Wi-Fi Enabled Smart Doorbell can be purchased on Amazon for under $200.
