Maddie Bradshaw started making Snap Caps – jewelry made out of bottle caps — and turned it to a multi-million dollar business, m3 girl designs. With her mother Diane and little sister Margot, the 15-year-old pitched her business on Shark Tank and got three Sharks to invest: Mark Cuban, Robert Herjevic and Lori Greiner.

According to Karen Dudnikov, co-author of Tabberone’s Trademark and Copyright Abusers Hall of Shame, the Bradshaws never received the $300k for 30 percent. It came to the potential investors’ attention that m3 girl designs had sent a series of cease and desist letters to competitors, claiming they owned the copyrights to bottle cap jewelry, which they did not. The m3girl designs website is no longer up, but there are plenty of artisans making jewelry with bottle caps at websites including Etsy.
