Linda Duffey shot her then husband Patrick Duffey dead in 2007. When brought in for questioning she said her husband told her there were no bullets in the gun. She also said that they were reenacting a favorite cartoon – a Bugs Bunny cartoon with Elmer Fudd as a hunter – when his 38-caliber revolver accidentally went off. Pat was sitting on the sofa at the time. Linda told police, “So I made sure that the – it was pointed down on the sofa.” She admitted, “the next thing I know, he, his head was right there.” Patrick Duffey was shot twice in the head. He was 50.
The investigation went on for five years before Linda Duffey was arrested. Since Pat Duffey’s death, Linda moved from California to Mississippi, remarried and went by her new married name Linda Gwozdz. In 2012 she was taken from her Mississippi home, brought back to California to face a judge and jury. In 2015, Linda Duffey Gwozdz was found guilty of murdering Patrick Duffey. She was sentenced to 40 years to life in jail. 48 Hours will air its investigative report on October 31 at 10pm on CBS.
