Like a dung beetle crawling all over a sick animal’s fetid leavings, Leonardo DiCaprio has snapped up the film rights to the story of the Volkswagen scandal, news of which was just recently leaked and rocked the motor industry. According to Variety, the actor’s production company, Appian Way, and Paramount Pictures, will produce a movie about a playboy millionaire and his coterie of supermodels squeezing into a VW Bug and … oh, wait, no sorry, that’s a different movie.

DiCaprio will in fact make a film based on Jack Ewing’s forthcoming book, which details the German motor company’s tampering with fuel emissions test, resulting in pollution levels as much as 40 times higher than is legal. DiCaprio is a passionate environmentalist; since 1998 his foundation has awarded over $30 million to global conservation efforts.
