Lay’s Potato Chips ran a contest this summer called “Do US A Flavor.” They asked consumers to suggest ideas for a new flavor of potato chip. Hailey Green’s “Southern Biscuits and Gravy” flavor won. TV personality Nick Lachey was on hand to present Green with a Lay’s crown. She will also receive $1 million or “one percent of her winning flavor’s net sales through July 15, 2016 (whichever is higher).”
Green, who is a travel agent, said the Biscuits and Gravy flavor reminds her of her grandmother’s recipe. The three other finalists were “West Coast Truffle Fries (Angie Fu, CA), New York Reuben (Jeff Solensky, PA), Greektown Gyro (James Wagner, TX). Each finalist will receive $50k.
