Ryan Henry is the star of the spinoff reality TV show Black Ink Crew: Chicago. The young man owns the tattoo shop 9Mag, which he says is in honor of the memories of his late sister Nova and his niece Ava. Nova was 24 years old and her daughter Ava was 10-months-old when they were murdered in their South Loop townhouse in 2009. Nova’s three-year-old son Noah (his father is former Chicago Bulls center Eddy Curry), was sleeping in the house at the time of the murder. He was physically unharmed.

Nova’s ex-boyfriend Frederick Goings was convicted of the murders. Goings was a family attorney who, according to The Chicago Tribune, “took Nova Henry on as a client in a child-support case against Curry, who was then playing for the New York Knicks.” They became romantically involved. After two years, when the relationship came to an end, Nova hired a new lawyer and planned to contest his $24,000 legal fees. On January 24, 2009, Goings killed Nova Henry “as she stood at the bottom of the stairs.” Black Ink Crew: Chicago airs Mondays at 9pm on VH1.
