On February 9, 2014, 19-year-old Ashton Sachs drove from Seattle to his family’s 8,784-sqaure-foot mansion in Orange County, California. He shot his parents, Andra and Brad Sachs, dead in their bed. Ashton also shot his 8-year-old brother Landon, who is now paralyzed, and he fired a round into the bedroom of his 17-year-old sister Alexis (she was not hit). Ashton’s 15-year-old sister Lana escaped. The eldest Sachs child, Myles, 21, was studying at Washington State University at the time.

When arrested, Ashton told detectives he had “just a lot of problems.” He had stopped going to school, was spending most of his time smoking pot and playing video games. He said his parents made him feel like “crap.” According to OrangeCoast.com, he told the detectives that “his plan had been to shoot the couple and kill himself.” 48 Hours will air its investigation of the Sachs double homicide on October 10 at 10pm on CBS.
