With NBC’s Parenthood out of the picture, CBS is testing the waters with its new family series, Life in Pieces. It’s got a stellar cast. James Brolin plays the patriarch of the Short family, Academy Award winner Dianne Wiest the matriarch. Each episode will feature four short stories in one hour. The first episode will focus on the Short adult children, starting with Matt. Matt is the single one who’s living at home with Brolin and Weist. Good news: Matt thinks he might have found his true love, Colleen (Angelique Cabral), although she lives with her ex-fiance, Chad (Jordan Peele), who still thinks he has a chance.

Matt is portrayed by Thomas Sadoski. The 39-year-old actor launched his career on stage. He made his professional debut as Mark Ruffalo’s understudy in Kenneth Lonergan’s play This Is Our Youth at the Second Stage Theatre. Sadoski is best known for his recent TV role as Don Keefer on The Newsroom. Life in Pieces will premiere on Monday, September 21 at 8:30pm. P.S. In November, the show will move to Thursdays (8:30, CBS).
