Tennis star Andy Murray’s powerful physique is just what Under Armour wants filling out its form-fitting sports apparel. In January Murray left Adidas to join Under Armour as its chief tennis endorser, joining ballerinas, super models, NBA MVPs and pretty much every dad at Dunkin’ Donuts as Under Armour champions.
But though Murray is clad in Under Armour at the US Open, he’s not quite clad head-to-toe in it — Murray is wearing sneakers by Adidas, his old sponsor. Murray’s Under Armour deal makes it clear he’s required to switch to Under Armour footwear only when the shoes are perfect for him. And while he’s tried out a pair in the past, he switched back to Adidas for the Open. Murray’s choice delighted Adidas, of course, which took a shot at Under Armour on social media. (See tweet below.) But the cameras will take a lot more pictures of Murray’s chest — emblazoned with the Under Armour logo — than of his three-striped feet.
