Rock band The Maine must figure if Spotify is going to give away artists’ music practically for free, why not throw in the towel entirely and perform free too? Or else they’re just a very savvy rock ‘n’ roll outfit that wants its fans — even its cash-strapped fans — to have a good time. On the house. The Maine just announced it’ll embark on a 26-city tour where all the shows will be free. Zilch. Nada. Gratis.
Not familiar with the Arizona band’s oeuvre? Well it’ll cost you a couple of hours, but nothing else to get up to speed. As for how to get tickets… you don’t need them. But hurry up and RSVP to the show you want. Some are SOLD OUT, which is technically a misnomer — since nothing’s for sale — but it means filled up. It’s hard to break through the din these days to get some attention for your band. The Maine is certainly onto something — even CNN gave the band some copy on the free tour stunt. Now just this: if you hit a show and find yourself having a good time, remember this time when they pass the hat it’s for gas to get to the next free show.
