Ellie Lawrence keeps calm during her blind audition on Season 9 of The Voice, kind of. She sings Jermaine Stewart’s 1986 R&B song “We Don’t Need To Take Our Clothes Off” as a ballad and it’s gorgeous. After Lawrence slowly delivers the first line: “Not a word, from your lips / You just took for granted that I want to skinny dip,” three of the four judges (Adam Levine, Gwen Stefani, Pharrell) hit their buzzers. (It looks like Blake Shelton has never heard the song before. It’s not Paul Simon’s “America,” but Blake was 10 when the song was on every popular radio station in the country.)
[Blind Joe On ‘The Voice’ Is Actually Hilarious Too]
During her performance, Lawrence can’t help but to smile and point to Stefani when she turns her chair. But Lawrence proves to be a professional. She continues to sing the song, hitting every dramatic note, and then when the right time comes, Lawrence gushes over Stefani. The other judges don’t have a chance — or do they? The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
