Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert, a man on top of the world this summer sharing photos of his unborn daughter in utero and nabbing a $40 million NBA deal, ruptured the Extensor Carpi Ulnaris Sheath in his right wrist. The Cavaliers confirmed that Shumpert will have surgery and is “currently projected” to miss 12 to 14 weeks.
So Shumpert won’t be available to help LeBron James get the Cavaliers kickstarted this season. James will find the situation depressingly familiar, since he carried the Cavs through the Finals last year without star teammates Kyrie Irving or Kevin Love, both out with injuries then and still not back. Shumpert will probably have to wait on holding his baby, too. She’s due January 16.
