As long as he always plays like this, 49ers fans can rest easy. They’ll just hope it’s always Mr. Hyde and Dr. Jeckyll never shows up. Mr. (Carlos) Hyde ran for 168 yards in the Niners opener, as they stomped the Minnesota Vikings 20-3. That’s more yardage than any other back ran for in week one — and Hyde needed just 26 carries to get there. In other words, whenever Colin Kaepernick handed Carlos Hyde the football, Hyde ran for 6.7 yards — or at least that’s how it averaged out.
Coincidentally (or not), Kaepernick threw 26 passes, matching Hyde’s run total exactly. He completed 17 of them, for very nearly the same yardage as Hyde gained: Kaepernick threw for 165 yards. It was more than enough.
