The natural mystic glow is in the air at this classic, beautifully preserved Bob Marley Santa Barbara show. Marley and the Wailers hardly ever sounded better. It’s everything you could hope for: Marley’s clarity of voice overcomes any blurriness of the old video. And the I-Threes are spectacular, lending their gorgeous tones to some of the greatest reggae songs — some of the best songs period — ever to rock an audience with pure musicality.
From a lively start on Positive Vibration to I Shot the Sheriff to Exodus, Marley delivers a glorious whale of a set — a pure and beautiful gift. Particularly stirring is Zimbabwe (at the 1:03 mark), just before Jammin’ and Is This Love. The final two songs are Stir It Up and Get Up Stand Up. This is a Bob Marley masterpiece about mastering peace.
