Walmart is celebrating Amazon’s 20th birthday this week. It has to. Amazon Prime Day — a day of major sales for Amazon Prime customers that celebrates the online giant’s 20th — is forcing Walmart to plays sales match. Walmart has responded with some serious deep discounts, including knocking 50% of some big TVs like the RCA 55-inch 1080p HDTV featured above, which is just $399 during the sale.
Walmart has two advantages over Amazon for customers. First, anyone can shop there — no Amazon Prime membership ($99 a year) is needed to access the Walmart deals. Second is that when an item is sold out at the Walmart site, there’s still a good chance it’s available at a brick and mortar store nearby. When the items on Amazon are gone, there’s no brick and mortar back up.
