All is happy in Clippers-ville for the moment. The team inked 73-year-old –no, sorry — 37-year-old veteran Paul Pierce and also managed to save (last minute) their center DeAndre Jordan from leaving for Dallas. That means the Clippers can have pretty much the same team on the floor in next year’s playoffs as this year, when they lost in the second round to a Houston Rockets team that promptly got beat by Golden State.
[Clippers Stage ‘Real Housewives’ Intervention For DeAndre Jordan]
The antic intervention/lockdown by Clippers owner Steve Ballmer, head coach Doc Rivers, team captain Chris Paul and Blake Griffin to keep DeAndre Jordan in the Clippers fold just saved the Mavericks $80 million. The Clippers are elated (see tweet below). But after the big party at Jordan’s house, haranguing the young man into reneging on his word, the Clippers are going to have to face the hangover part: they just saved a guy who shoots 39.7% from the free throw line. That’s his average over SEVEN years. DeAndre Jordan can’t play during crucial playoff stretches, because he can’t deliver.
