You’re my big hope, America’s Got Talent judge Howard Stern told the handsome (and fab) four young men who make up Three Shades of Blue. “I really want a rock band to win this whole thing,” Stern said. Three Shades of Blue won over the judges on Tuesday night’s judges cut show, Stern foremost. But the song they performed wasn’t catchy enough for judges Howie Mandel or Mel B. (Former Spice Girl Mel B. knows something about catchy tunes.) Still the band gave an authentic performance, seemed like this wasn’t their first rodeo — and America will see them again when America’s Got Talent arrives at Radio City Music Hall to crown a champion.

It’s important to note that Mandel resisted the song choice, not the band. He gave Three Shades of Blue an important piece of advice — if they really want to win America’s Got Talent. Mandel said they need to pick a song that’ll have the “12-year-old girls” who call and vote swooning and dialing for them. The band looks like it’s more used to entertaining and enchanting 21-year-olds. Can they make the switch? Will they need to in order to win?
